Who doesn't love getting real mail? A letter from a friend, a postcard from a traveling relation, or a real invitation to dinner.
But in our increasingly digitized world, most of us no longer get to experience this pleasure. So this membership is one small way to reclaim this small but human joy from among the many things that digitization has stolen from us with friends in the fiber arts world.
When you join the Fiber Pen Pals membership, here’s what you’ll receive:
- A facsimile of a letter handwritten by me, sent by snail mail once a month

What will these letters be like? They’ll be more intimate than my weekly e-newsletters and include my personal reflections on topics related to crafting and fiber arts (which, honestly, can be pretty far-ranging).
Writing letters is one of my favorite things to do, and I’ve had lots of practice, so you can expect them to feel personal and invite conversation. They may also ask something of you, and you are always welcome to write back, even if it’s just a line or two.
So let’s do something no AI can replicate, put pen to paper, and connect with each other in a way that’s deeply human.

My first purchase from RLFA has been a delight. Great colors and excellent stitch definition.
I just love the whole idea! Actually I love the internet I don’t really enjoy social media but do get email from indie fiber shops. It is fun seeing little personal notes about inspiration and the dyer and then getting yarn in my mailbox. I like everything about RLF including Ethan’s creative philosophy, quiet affirmation of right and wrong and prioritizing family.
The colors I received of the mystery skeins were beautiful!! They do seem to be a heavier DK weight approaching a light worsted, as I did a swatch alongside one of my Malabrigo Rios skeins (a worsted weight yarn) and weight-wise the mystery skein I swatched was nearly the same weight, if not a taaad bit thicker than the Rios. Not an issue for me in the slightest but just wanted to mention it for anyone else looking at getting this lovely yarn!
The yarn I got as a mystery is gorgeous (not a surprise) and clearly curated to make me ooh and ahh—that was the surprise because Ethan exceeded his own high standards 😉
Such a lovely and practical project bag, beautifully made. I love it and am glad I purchased it.
Amazing design, and the inside is almost as pretty as the outside. I never knit a full garment in brioche before this, but there were enough explanations and tips that I managed a perfect fit. Well worth knitting.
